In this class we will be creating a 6x9 inch panel that depicts the changing seasons. We will design our panel flat using glass paint and a variety of glass frits and powders. We will put this in the kiln and heat it up to what is called a tac fuse. This leaves a lot of texture on the surface of the glass and this reflects lots of light as it passes through the glass.

Machine Coiled Basketry with Denise Seay 

Learn a method to coil a neat fabric basket. The sewing machine does the work! Fabric covered clothesline produces baskets, coasters, placemats and purses, and this method produces a neater finished piece. Woven-look basketry can be achieved through fabric selection. Sewing machine with zig-zag stitch required. All other materials provided. Please pack a lunch for this all day workshop and be sure to register early. Limited space available!

A friendly, 7-week improv course that teaches core skills for playing scenes and games.  No prior acting or comedy experience is required.  The technique will guide you.

 This class will use a variety of glass and glass elements to create a “Garden Angel” to stand guard in your garden throughout the season. The base will be created with a pattern and then you’ll let your creativity go wild as you design your angel.

Create a beautiful wall hanging that is uniquely yours during this two-day workshop. In the morning on the first day, you will focus on creating the elements of your wall hanging from slabs of clay. After lunch, you’ll add textures, designs, and underglazes.

Come back on June 13 and assemble your fired pieces. Consider bringing in found objects, like drift wood, stones, and feathers, to incorporate into the wall hanging. You can hang the pieces from a bamboo stick or something found.

Songwriting Workshop with Michael Reno Harrell 

Join one of Burke County’s most beloved songwriter and storyteller Michael Reno Harrell as he presents a songwriting workshop for all levels on Saturday, May 16 in our new theater! 

The workshop will cover both lyric and melody writing and will be directed at both beginning and advanced writers. The workshop is recommended for high school students to adults. Attendees are invited to perform an original work as time permits with a critique upon request.

Please bring your instrument, a pencil and a notepad. All instruments and genres are welcome!

Fused Glass Lattice Bowl Workshop with Diane Enger

Glass on Glass Heart Mosaic Workshop with Diane Enger

“What The World Needs Now is Love”

In this class we will create a glass-on-glass mosaic, using a pre-cut heart as our focal point. We will use all transparent glass and the light passing through the piece will reflect the glass colors in all directions. There will be minimal glass cutting for this project. It is a great opportunity to learn to cut glass or practice your cutting skills. Our finished glass piece measures 8x8” and is mounted in a shadow box frame which allows it to sit in front of a window or on a shelf. The frame is not a part of the materials cost but will be available for purchase at $15. This “Skylight Window” will spread love around your world, and it will be ready just in time for Mother’s Day.

THIS CLASS IS FULL. In this one-day class you'll learn the fundamentals of copper foil stained glass work.  Each participant will learn the very basics of cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering stained glass, and will leave with a beautiful heirloom.

In this class we will be creating an 8 inch mosaic bowl. The mosaic technique gives this combination of glasses the illusion of stained glass. There is some simple glass cutting but it is a skill we will be working on in this class.

In this two-day workshop participants will take a crash course about all phases of watercolor painting - equipment, simple sketch and drawing tricks, how to capture good perspective, practice multiple watercolor techniques, distinguish the elements of a painting, and even learn how to varnish and frame the finished product.

This two-day workshop is for all skill levels.

Fused Glass Love Birds Workshop with Diane Enger

In this class we will be creating a pair of Love Bird pot stickers for spring! Each bird is approximately 3 inches by 4 inches. There will be a variety of colors to choose from.  We will be decorating the birds with enamel paint and then assembling them.

Join us to create two puffy keepsake hearts - one to keep and one to give! Participants will learn how to use a “drop” mold to create the hearts, select from a collection of texture rollers to decorate the hearts,  and finish the hearts in their choice of glaze colors. Your puffy sweet hearts will be ready for pick up just in time for Valentine's day!

Our first excursion of the new year will be to Italy where we’ll tantalize our taste buds using fresh and authentic ingredients to celebrate one the world’s most beloved culinary traditions. 

What’s on the menu? Arancini (fried Italian rice balls with risotto), fresh mozzarella, and caprese salad. Wine paired with the meal.

This workshop teaches the steps in creating tree forms in watercolor: branches, trunks, and light. 

Some of the topics covered are scene selection, composition and focal point, use of color, use of contrast and methods of applying paint to get the perfect aesthetic and texture.
