Community Blackout Poetry Evening

  • Burke Arts Council 506 South Sterling Street Morganton, NC, 28655 United States (map)

Morganton is celebrating National Poetry Month!

Poetry in the Windows - Take a stroll through Downtown Morganton all month long to discover poems displayed in storefront windows. It’s a beautiful, walkable gallery of words and inspiration.

Discover Blackout Poetry!  Join us for two hands-on events!

What is blackout poetry? It’s a form of "found poetry" where you take an existing page of text—like from an old book or newspaper—and redact or "black out" most of the words with a marker. The few remaining words form a completely new poem, revealing a hidden message or masterpiece waiting to be discovered.

Come try it out yourself at these upcoming events:

  • Poetry & Pints - April 23rd at 7:00 PM at Brown Mountain Bottle Works

  • Community Creation Night - April 29th at 5:00 PM Burke Arts Council

The Vibe: A creative session focused on the visual art of blackout poetry. Perfect for all ages and skill levels.

No experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided. Whether you are a seasoned writer or a curious beginner, come help us celebrate the power of words!
