Jorgenson is a dazzling guitar player with a storied history. Growing up in California, Jorgenson was playing piano and clarinet by the age of 8. He received his first guitar at the age of 12 and so the legend began. Jorgenson went on to be one of the founding members of the Desert Rose Band which recorded 5 number 1 singles. He later became the lead guitarist for the Hellecasters, a favorite among guitarist everywhere. As his reputation grew he was approached by Elton John to be John's lead guitar player and band leader, an association which lasted 6 years.
Jorgenson has played and recorded with some of the best in the industry during his career including Barbara Streisand, Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs, David Grisman, Benny Goodman, Sting, and Billy Joel.
5 years ago Jorgenson decided to pursue the music which was closest to his heart, the music of Django Reinhardt. The John Jorgenson Quintet plays the Gypsy Jazz style make famous by Reinhardt and won a Grammy this year for their recordings. Jorgenson has also been named the ACM Guitarist of the Year 3 straight years.
The music of the John Jorgenson Quintet has been described as equally romantic and ecstatic, played with virtuosity and soul.
